Ramdeobaba University (RBU), Nagpur, has partnered with Secunderabad-based deep-tech startup QClairvoyance Quantum Labs Pvt. Ltd. to bring quantum technology out of the research paper and into the campus lab. Under a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding, the two will set up a quantum software lab and a quantum communication hardware lab at RBU, giving students and faculty direct, hands-on exposure to quantum computing and quantum-secure communication.
The move comes as India steps up its push to build a skilled quantum workforce, and as universities look for practical ways to teach a field that has, until recently, been confined to a handful of national laboratories.
Two labs, two sides of quantum
- Quantum software lab: Built on QClair-Edu, QClairvoyance’s browser-based educational platform, the lab will let students write and test quantum algorithms, visualise quantum circuits and state vectors in real time, and compare quantum outputs with classical approaches. Because it runs in the cloud, it needs no local installation or specialised computing hardware.
- Quantum communication hardware lab: This lab will be equipped with Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) kits along with cybersecurity products, so learners can see how quantum principles are applied to secure key exchange and random number generation.
Together, the two facilities are designed to connect classroom theory with both the software and hardware ends of the technology, and to lay a base for research projects in the area.
Industry faculty on campus
A notable feature of the partnership is the teaching support that comes with it. QClairvoyance will place two full-time postdoctoral or PhD-qualified specialists at RBU for 12 months as Professors of Practice or Adjunct Faculty. They will take classes and lab sessions, mentor students and support faculty development. A one-week faculty development programme will also be held once the lab systems are installed, helping RBU teachers build quantum topics into their own teaching and research.
Research, internships and career pathways
Beyond coursework, the MoU covers:
- Guidance to students on research problem statements and academic projects
- Support for faculty in identifying research funding and preparing proposals
- Joint research and academic publications
- Internships at QClairvoyance for eligible students and faculty, with the possibility of employment
- Workshops, expert talks and industry-oriented programmes
RBU will provide the infrastructure for the labs, while its students and faculty will take part in joint research initiatives with the startup.
What the partners said
Sai Shankar P., Director, QClairvoyance Quantum Labs, said quantum technologies are moving from research into practical applications and that India needs a skilled workforce for that transition. Bringing quantum software and communication technologies directly onto the campus, he said, is meant to make the learning more accessible and open up opportunities for research, innovation and careers.
Dr. Rajesh S. Pande, Vice Chancellor, Ramdeobaba University, said education must keep pace with the technologies shaping the world, adding that the labs will let students and faculty move beyond textbooks and learn through experimentation and research across computing, communication and cybersecurity.
Why it matters
Quantum education in India has largely been concentrated in IITs, IISc and national research institutions. Cloud-based learning platforms and compact QKD and QRNG training kits are now making it possible for private and state universities to offer practical exposure without building expensive quantum hardware of their own. Industry-embedded faculty and internship pipelines, as in the RBU–QClairvoyance model, could help close the gap between what campuses teach and the skills that India’s emerging quantum ecosystem will need.
