Nagaland partners with Google to accelerate digital transformation in School Education

The Nagaland government has entered into a new partnership with Google aimed at strengthening technology-driven learning across the state’s school education system. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on August 28 during the Tech X Gaming Expo 2026 in Kohima, involves an investment of more than ₹10 crore.

The collaboration is focused on improving teaching and learning practices while helping students develop digital and 21st-century skills that can prepare them for emerging career opportunities. The initiative is part of Nagaland’s broader effort to integrate technology, innovation and future-ready capabilities into education.

As part of the partnership, Google Workspace services will be provided free of cost to government schools and offices under the Department of School Education for three years, with the possibility of extending the arrangement. The digital tools are expected to support communication, collaboration, content creation and classroom activities.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted the role of technology in connecting students from the state with wider educational and career opportunities. He also pointed to growing fields such as artificial intelligence, software development, data analytics, robotics, game design, digital content and e-sports as potential avenues for the younger generation.

The partnership comes amid Nagaland’s wider push to build a stronger digital ecosystem, including initiatives around technology infrastructure, startups, innovation and AI.

The development reflects the growing role of public-private collaboration in modernising school education and equipping students with skills relevant to an increasingly technology-led economy.
