Meghalaya to introduce Digital Learning pilot across 31 Schools in East Khasi Hills

The Meghalaya government is set to expand the use of technology in school education through a pilot programme covering 31 government and government-aided schools in East Khasi Hills.

The initiative will introduce digital and interactive learning tools for Mathematics and Science among students of Classes 6 to 12. Schools from both rural and urban areas have been selected to examine how technology-supported and blended learning can be incorporated into regular classroom teaching.

The programme is being implemented under the Meghalaya Programme for Adolescent Wellbeing, Empowerment and Resilience (MPOWER) in collaboration with the CK-12 Foundation and the Education Department of the Meghalaya government.

As part of the preparations, 47 teachers and four school principals from the district have received training in digital teaching practices. The training included familiarisation with the CK-12 Learning Platform, its interactive resources and tools designed for classroom use.

The platform offers interactive and adaptive learning resources that allow students to work through concepts at their own pace. It also includes Flexi, an AI-powered tutor, which provides step-by-step guidance and personalised learning support.

For teachers, the digital platform can provide learning data and AI-enabled tools to help identify areas where students may need additional assistance. These insights can then be used to plan classroom activities and provide more targeted academic support.

The digital resources will be used alongside conventional classroom teaching rather than as a replacement for it. The programme is intended to strengthen students’ conceptual understanding in Mathematics and Science while making classroom learning more interactive.

MPOWER will also support participating schools with ICT infrastructure, devices and connectivity. The organisation will monitor the implementation of the pilot and assess its outcomes across the participating schools.

According to officials, the programme is expected to help teachers integrate digital resources into everyday teaching while giving students additional opportunities for interactive and self-paced learning.

The pilot will also provide an opportunity to assess how digital and blended learning models can work across different school environments in Meghalaya, including both rural and urban settings.
