The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions to a six-month online Certificate Programme in Cybersecurity and AI for working professionals. The course treats cyber defence and the security of artificial intelligence (AI) systems as one subject, and is run by the institute’s Continuing Education Programme (CEP) with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
According to the official IIT Delhi CEP programme page, applications close on 13 November 2026 and classes begin on 22 November 2026. The programme ends on 29 May 2027. The launch was reported by The Times of India on 5 November 2026.
What the IIT Delhi AI security course covers
The course offers about 78 hours of live online teaching across five modules, followed by a capstone project. Classes run every Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM and are taught by IIT Delhi faculty and industry practitioners.
- Foundations: Python for security automation, machine learning workflows, cloud set-up and tools such as Wireshark, Nmap, Burp Suite and Kali Linux
- Threat modelling: STRIDE, MITRE ATT&CK, penetration testing, OWASP Top 10, API and identity attacks, and India’s threat landscape, including UPI fraud
- AI security: AI red teaming, adversarial machine learning, tool-calling security, memory poisoning and model supply chain risks
- Tools: PyRIT, Garak, Sigstore, Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Falco
For the capstone, each participant builds and deploys an AI security solution that is evaluated by IIT Delhi faculty.
Who can apply, fees and certificate
Applicants need a graduate degree with at least 50% marks, and familiarity with a programming language is preferred. The programme is aimed at cybersecurity professionals, AI and machine learning engineers, data scientists, DevOps and platform engineers, and governance, risk and compliance staff.
The fee is ₹1,40,000 plus 18% GST, or about ₹1,65,200 in total, payable in four instalments. Participants with at least 50% attendance and 50% marks receive an e-Certificate of Completion from CEP, IIT Delhi.
Subodh Vishnu Sharma, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, said the course follows a threat-first approach, teaching professionals how AI systems are attacked and how to defend them, with attention to India’s changing regulatory requirements.
Why it matters for AI skilling in India
As companies deploy AI agents and large language models in their systems, attacks such as prompt injection and poisoned data have become a security problem in their own right. IIT Delhi’s CEP has been adding AI courses for working professionals, including its recent executive certificate in agentic AI systems. The institute also backed the RAKSHAM AI cybersecurity hackathon with Amazon and I4C.
Other institutions are moving the same way. Agra University has made AI and cyber security courses mandatory for undergraduates, and IIIT Bangalore and upGrad launched a Forward Deployed AI Engineering PG that includes AI security. Engineering colleges are also building AI and security skills through partnerships such as Google’s programme with VTU.
