Hyderabad is moving closer to becoming a major international education destination, with the University of London and Northeastern University, Boston, planning to establish offshore campuses in the city. The announcement was made by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy as part of the state’s broader vision to develop Hyderabad into a Global Knowledge Hub.
The proposed campuses are expected to expand access to international higher education for students in India while creating opportunities for global academic collaboration. The initiative is also intended to strengthen Telangana’s focus on skills, education and preparing young people for an increasingly global workforce.
Beyond the two proposed campuses, Telangana is exploring collaborations with several leading international institutions. The Chief Minister said Harvard University and some of its schools have shown interest in offering selected programmes and courses in the state. Discussions have also taken place with institutions including Oxford University, Cambridge University, MIT, Imperial College London, London Business School and the London School of Economics.
Potential collaborations could extend beyond conventional degree programmes to include certification courses, joint research, centres of excellence, industry partnerships and programmes for working professionals.

The development comes as India increasingly opens its higher education sector to foreign universities. Under the UGC framework introduced in 2023, eligible international institutions can establish campuses in India subject to regulatory requirements.
For Hyderabad, these initiatives could strengthen its position at the intersection of education, technology, research and industry, while giving Indian students greater access to global academic opportunities closer to home.
